Home Project, 2021
Ink on Kozuke paper
Home project depicts a journey sprung by the dark coming to light, in other words, what was hidden was found. This dark secret that infected how a person now views a location that they once found comfort in, a home. The eye stretched open from the hand represents a forcing of opening your eyes to certain information or actions that you previously have blocked out or chose to dismiss because it was life changing in a negative sense. The liquid like lines that are spreading represents the affects of the negative on your life and everything in it. The building outline is a silhouette of the house I had grown up in and consider my home.
The first of the six variations I titled “Identity”. This print added fingerprints, that are unique to a person, onto the hand that shows that this is my personal journey over the past year and has impacted my life when I opened my eyes to the truths. The second print titled “Towering”. This is the beginning of the new reality of a physical change of location. Leaving the disrupted and tainted home and moving to a new house is becoming a reality. Shown by the removal of the home silhouette and the addition of the skyscrapers. The third print I titled “Road”. This print is the journey from the old house to the city. The added road is the entrance to the house's location where we reside. The fourth is titled “Split”. Depicted using the large line down the centre of the print shows the emotional feeling of a split family in a new place that is reflected on the individuals and the locations. The fifth print is titled “Glass”. The sporadic lines are like broken glass and represent that feeling of life is upside down and everything that was is now broken or lost. Finally, the sixth print is titled “Beginning”. Everything was removed except the border and the iris and pupil of the eye on the linoleum block. This depicts that all the things I once knew are gone. Everything is new and blank and the inner eye is left to represent me at my core. This is me entering a new chapter on a blank sheet, in a new place, surrounded by new people and experiences.
